05/07/2022 Sunny Salcombe and a blow up

harryembleton63

Yesterday morning we said goodbye to Sarah and Zack before departing Falmouth as a 4 man crew; Harry, Peter, Noah and Malcolm.

We decided to go to Salcombe rather than straight to Dartmouth, and we are really glad we did because it is beautiful. We are on a mooring in the bay and the weather is bliss. They have a water taxi service that runs until 23:00 too which is convenient.

Today we had a lazy morning before going ashore to have a rather chaotic brunch at "Captain Morgans", it did the job though. We bumped into Will Buchanan yesterday, a fellow AYC member and then went for a lovely supper at The Ferry Inn.

This morning in an attempt to speed up the water heating process aboard (requires engines running when not plugged into shore) we turned on the immersion heater. This was predominantly so Noah could have a hot shower, nobody else was too fussed. As many know, immersion heaters use a lot of electricity which alone out inverter could handle. However as Noah fired up the Nespresso machine moments after turning on the immersion - BANG! We blew a 200A fuse and waved good by to 230v electricity aboard... and nice coffee.

Today has been spent hunting for a fuse which proved difficult - eventually we found a marine technician who had two sitting around 150 and 250 Amp - hmm we needed 200, we took both for £1 each. Harry and Noah did some shopping and Harry decided that he would lead the trend to bring Jack Will's back in fashion - the boat isn't convinced. Harry had to buy Noah a new pair of sailing shorts having completely shrunk his whilst doing the laundry in Falmouth, that finally shut him up!

Beef steak aboard tonight from the butcher - about to get a taxi back ashore to pick up vegetables and have a pre-supper pint!

Off to Dartmouth tomorrow, where hopefully we will meet a pack of 3 200 amp fuses! (The 150A is working for now thankfully).

Harry
